Mr. Greenberg retired as Chairman and CEO of American International Group, Inc. (AIG) in March 2005, after serving as Chief Executive Officer from 1967 until March 2005. Under his leadership AIG became the largest insurance company in the world and generated unprecedented value for AIG shareholders. During the nearly 40 years of his leadership, AIG’s market value grew from $300 million to $l80 billion. AIG was created by C.V. Starr & Co., Inc.
Mr. Greenberg is Chairman of The Starr Foundation, one of the largest private foundations in the United States. He oversees the disbursements of major financial support to institutions worldwide, in the areas of education (including scholarship assistance), medical research and healthcare, human needs, culture and public policy (including international relations and the environment).
He serves on the President’s Council on International Activities of Yale University. He is the founding Chairman of the U.S.-Philippine Business Committee. Mr. Greenberg is Honorary Vice Chairman and Director of the Council on Foreign Relations, former Chairman and current member of U.S.-Korea Business Council, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and member of the Executive Committee of the National Committee on United States-China Relations, serves on the Board of Directors of the U.S. – China Business Council and the Business Roundtable. He is Honorary Co-Chairman of the Board of the United States-Philippines Society, Inc. and is Chairman of the Center for the National Interest. Mr. Greenberg has served on the Board of Directors of the New York Stock Exchange and the President’s Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations. He is also the past Chairman, Deputy Chairman and Director of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Mr. Greenberg is Board Member and Chairman Emeritus of New York-Presbyterian Hospital and the New York-Presbyterian Hospital Foundation, Inc. He serves as a member of the Board of Overseers of the Weill Medical School of Cornell University, is a Trustee Emeritus of The Rockefeller University, a Life Trustee of New York University, and a Trustee of The Manhattan Institute. He is on the Board of Overseers of the International Rescue Committee and is active in a number of other civic and charitable organizations.
In 1990, Mr. Greenberg was appointed by Mr. Zhu Rongji, then Mayor of Shanghai, to be the first Chairman of the International Business Leaders’ Advisory Council for the Mayor of Shanghai. In 1994, Mr. Greenberg was appointed Senior Economic Advisor to the Beijing Municipal Government. He was awarded “Honorary Citizen of Shanghai” in 1997. He is a Member of the Advisory Board of the Tsinghua School of Economics and Management, a Member of the International Advisory Council of the China Development Research Foundation and China Development Bank.
Mr. Greenberg received his pre-law certificate from the University of Miami and an LL.B from New York Law School in 1950. He was admitted to the New York Bar in 1953. He has been granted honorary degrees from a number of institutions, including New York Law School, Brown University, Middlebury College, and The Rockefeller University.
Mr. Greenberg served in the U. S. Army in Europe during World War II and in the Korean conflict, rising to the rank of Captain. He is a recipient of the Bronze Star.
Mr. Greenberg is married and has four children.

Bertil Lundqvist Bertil serves as the Executive Vice President and General Counsel for C.V. Starr & Co., Inc., and Starr Insurance Holdings, Inc. Mr. Lundqvist has served in this current role since 2006 where he is responsible for all affiliated insurance entities and for investments in the United States and abroad in addition to all litigation matters.
Previously, Mr. Lundqvist was a partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom for fifteen years concentrating on the firm’s insurance practice. Additional positions include Outside General Counsel at Home Insurance Company and Mannheimer Swartling.
Bertil has a law degree from the University of Lund in Sweden. He currently is affiliated with two prominent organizations: the Brookings Council and the Council on Foreign Relations.
Lawrence Scott GreenbergMr. Lawrence Scott Greenberg is a Director and Executive Vice President of C.V. Starr and Senior Managing Director of Starr Principal Holdings, LLC.
Mr. Greenberg started his career at Bankers Trust and has over twenty years of private equity experience. Mr. Greenberg received a degree in economics from New York University and a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
Howard I. SmithMr. Howard I. Smith is a Director and the Vice Chairman Finance of C. V. Starr, a member of Starr Companies. Previously, Mr. Smith was Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer of AIG, where he was responsible for AIG's Treasury, Investor Relations, Credit & Market Risk Management functions, in addition to the Comptroller's Department. Prior to joining AIG, he spent 19 years with Coopers & Lybrand and was the partner in charge of the firm's New York office insurance practice.
Mr. Smith earned his B.B.A. degree in accounting from the City College of New York in 1965. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York Society of Certified Public Accountants and was one of the North American representatives on the Insurance Working Group of the International Accounting Standards Board. Mr. Smith is Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Weissman Center for International Business of Baruch College.
Lord Peter LeveneLord Levene started his career in the Defence Industry, and subsequently was appointed as Permanent Secretary in the UK Ministry of Defence responsible for Defence Procurement. He then served in a number of other Government posts including as Adviser to The Prime Minister on Efficiency.
He was appointed as Chairman of the Docklands Light Railway and Chairman and CEO of Canary Wharf Ltd. He has served as an Alderman of the City of London as well as Sheriff and Lord Mayor. In the Financial Services Sector he became Vice Chairman of Deutsche Bank in the UK with earlier appointments at Wasserstein Perella and Morgan Stanley. More recently he served as Chairman of the Lloyd’s insurance market for nine years and as a director of the China Construction Bank for six years.
Currently he serves as Chairman of General Dynamics UK Ltd, and on the boards of Haymarket Group Ltd and Eurotunnel SA.
He holds a degree in Economics and Politics from the University of Manchester as well as honorary degrees from the City University and the University of London. He was knighted for his services to Defence and subsequently received a peerage whereby he sits on the cross benches of the House of Lords. He is a Commander of the Ordre Nationale de la Merite in France, a Knight Commander of the Order of Merit in Germany, and of the Order of Merit in Hungary.
Charles DangeloChuck Dangelo is President and CEO of Starr Indemnity & Liability Company, a Company offering customized property and casualty insurance products and accompanying loss control, claims management, administrative and reinsurance services.
Prior to this role Mr. Dangelo was AIG's Vice President and Chief Reinsurance Officer and was responsible for the management of ceded and assumed reinsurance divisions, which included U.S. Property/Casualty, International Property/Casualty, and worldwide Life insurance. In addition, he was a Senior Vice President and on the Board of Directors of all of domestic Property & Casualty companies.
Mr. Dangelo graduated summa cum laude from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Mathematics in 1971. He also attended the University of Chicago, Graduate School of Business.
Jeffrey HaymanJeffrey Hayman is President of International Insurance Operations for Starr Companies. Mr. Hayman is responsible for the overall growth, profitability, distribution, and product offerings outside of the United States.
Mr. Hayman has over thirty years of experience as an executive with leading insurance organizations. Most recently, he was Chief Executive Officer of Global Consumer Property Casualty Insurance at AIG having previously served for seven years as AIG’s Regional President, Far East. Mr. Hayman remains a director at both The Korea Society and The Japan Society.
Mr. Hayman holds a B.A. in Economics and Political Science with honors from Saint Olaf College and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Hartford. He also holds the Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant designations.
Edward Navarro Edward Navarro is the Head of International Insurance Operations and Global Head of Accident & Health for Starr Companies. Mr. Navarro leads Starr's international growth strategies. In addition, Edward serves as Global Head of Accident and Health for the organization.
Prior to joining Starr, Mr. Navarro held executive level positions within multinational organizations such as American International Group (Latin America), Prudential (Asia), Allstate (US), Citigroup (Asia) and Zurich (Europe). His expertise in the developing, executing and managing of global strategies within the insurance industry, combined with leveraging his extensive knowledge of intergrading products has been a key strength in Starr’s rapid expansion.
Richard Shaak Richard N. Shaak is CEO of Starr Technical Risks, a market leader in providing property insurance, fronting, claims, and loss control services to the highly specialized energy-related and technical industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical, chemical and power generation industries.
Prior to this role, Mr. Shaak has held a number of positions at Starr including President of Starr Indemnity & Liability Company, President of Starr Underwriting Agencies, Eastern Zone Manager, and Vice President and Regional Manager for the New York office of Starr Tech.
Mr. Shaak is a graduate of Louisiana State University with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering.
David FrenchDavid French is President of Starr Marine, a leading provider of ocean marine insurance products and services. Mr. French is an expert in various areas of coverage such as cargo/multinational programs, marine liability and inland marine & hull.
Prior to this role, Mr. French held numerous positions at Starr including Worldwide Marine Operations Manager and European Regional Marine Manager. Mr. French is a past Chairman of the American Institute of Marine Underwriters, a U.S. marine insurance trade association and is currently a Trustee and Chairman Emeritus of the Seamen’s Church Institute of NY & NJ.
Mr. French holds a Master of Science Degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and a B.A. with honors from Colby College.
Steve Blakey serves as the Chief Executive Officer for Starr Underwriting Agents Limited & Starr Managing Agents Limited and is based in London. Steve has over 30 years in the commercial insurance arena with specific experience in reinsurance and aviation.
Prior to his current role, Steve held a number of positions within Starr Aviation including President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer.
Mr. Blakey is a certified public accountant and is a graduate of Kirby College in the United Kingdom.
